FAQs

Does your product archive internal as well as external
e-mail?

Yes, all e-mail, whether internal (employee to employee) or external, is available for archiving. The AXS-One solution does not require an SMTP intercept or redirect of SMTP traffic.

What is the impact on the performance of the e-mail servers?
There is minimal impact on the message servers themselves. The e-mail extraction and capture is merely copying the messages upon receipt and prior to delivery. As the extraction process is multithreaded, it has minimal impact on the routing of mail.

Is your solution a centralized archiving solution or distributed with each server?
The AXS-One solution is a centralized archiving solution; there is no separate archive for each mail server. Generally, archive servers are dispersed according to geographical and volume requirements.

Is E-mail and Instant Message archiving a new product for AXS-One?
No, AXS-One’s archiving, storage, and management solutions have included e-mail as well as Instant Message storage in the core product line. Because of the passage of new laws (SEC 17a-4, for example), as well as an increase in awareness regarding compliance and regulatory requirements for companies in several industries, AXS-One decided to more strongly leverage its core archiving and retrieval technologies to take advantage of these changes in the marketplace. Based on customer feedback, the need for an integrated compliance solution (including access to varied content types, sophisticated content filtering, and advanced search technology) has driven AXS-One to provide a compliance-based solution designed to meet the ever-changing demands of our customers and the market.

What are the transport mediums used for the archiving and retrieval of messages?
Ethernet, TCP/IP, and HTTP are the standard protocols for migration to archival storage, migration to long term storage, as well as search and retrieval access via web browser. AXS-One products are not dependent on any physical layer components. All connections are based on TCP/IP; web access interfaces are accessed via TCP/IP supporting HTTP, and/or HTTP/S and SSL. No additional network or storage is required; it the company requests that AXS-One access or write to an internal SAN, this would simply require a network connection.
